WAGNER ENCAUSTIC MASTER CLINIC SERIES
WAGNER ENCAUSTIC MASTER CLINICS
The master clinic series is designed for intermediate and working artists looking to integrate encaustic into their regular studio practice. You will learn what is involved in setting up encaustic in your studio, ventilation, safety and equipment. Each clinic is designed with a specific focus. Lunch and morning coffee is included so that all you have to do is come and absorb yourself in learning and working.
What makes a Master Clinic?
You are not required to be a master at encaustic or any other medium to take one of these clinics. You will have the opportunity to learn from and work in the studio of Elise Wagner. Many participants are local to the community and from different parts of the world. The Master Clinics are set apart from others in that they take a less of a craft approach to encaustic; coming from a more integrative and fine art inquiry into encaustic as a painting medium.
The Master Clinics bring Wagner’s years of materials knowledge and painting background to you in a semi-private environment. You bring your own subject matter, concepts and ideas to the table. Wagner will direct your exploration of those materials and methods and help you dig deeper into your own concepts and curiosities specific to encaustic.
Past workshop participants have commonly made an Oregon vacation out of taking workshops, coming from distant places such as Vancouver B.C., Washington D.C., Shanghai, Holland, Seattle and California and stayed at the nearby motel that Wagner’s studio is conveniently situated behind. The diversity of backgrounds that students come from combined with being in a working artist’s studio creates a synergy that makes Wagner’s workshops a unique and memorable experience.

THE DIG - Weekend Immersion Clinic $450 Includes most materials, morning coffee and lunch for both days. In the creative process, making a painting is very much like going on a personal archeological dig. In this class, we will explore the evolutionary process of making a painting. This Weekend Clinic is designed as a destination retreat of creativity for artists to dig deeper with an emphasis on using other media. Emphasis will be on mixed media and address specific techniques through one on one consultation with Elise. Participants are required to bring: specific concepts, subject matter, dry or encaustic works in progress, collage materials, R&F piment sticks or oil paints, inks, charcoal, oil pastels and/or oil brushes to use. Gamblin mediums, some R&F pigment sticks and all encaustic materials provided. Maximum 4 participants. |

Encaustic Monotype at Elise Wagner Studio & Atelier Meridian Combining monotype with encaustic’s textural elements is a process that explodes beyond the boundaries of printmaking! Matrices of wax are built onto plexiglass, then we apply water based inks, wipe free the excess ink, and run it through an intaglio press to be printed on paper. These techniques can produce subtle and mysterious marks, allowing for variable prints or editions. Mixing inks, modifying, rolling out a flat, use and abuse of mark- making tools will be explored, along with multiple plates and registration techniques. Collage and chine colle will be discussed, along with encaustic inlaying and incising techniques. Day 1: Beginning Encaustic Painting workshop Day 2: We use an etching press to produce collagraphs and monoprints from the encaustic plates. Some printmaking experience is helpful but not required. Minimum age level:12 with parent. Day 3: Those taking the three-day format have extra time to pull more prints. Participants are encouraged to bring any tools or brushes you like using. Bring textural elements, such as feathers, leaves, fabric like burlap and lace or string. Good printing paper is available for purchase. Class limit 6 students
